Phase I Update: From Setup to Structure
Phase I of circled.club
It has been less about adding features — but more about getting the foundations right.
Over the past months, we focused on stabilizing the platform, clarifying structures, and aligning how circled.club actually behaves with what it stands for:
Human-centred Collaboration, Responsibility, and Long-Term Thinking.
This meant slowing down at times, revisiting assumptions, and cleaning up complexity that naturally emerges during early development.
What changed in Phase I
We worked on:
- Beta core installation and testing
- Stable core installation and configuration
- Stabilising the technical core and navigation
- Developing and integrating community language modules
- Preparing and integrating additional content modules
- Clarifying the structure of Spaces, Circles, profiles, and timelines
- Separating signal from noise in content visibility
- Defining roles and membership levels: who can access, create, and coordinate what — and why
- Establishing clear support, FAQ, and maintenance structures
- Documenting changes transparently as the platform evolves
These adjustments are not cosmetic.
They are structural — and necessary before sustainable growth.
Challenges we encountered
Building a community platform is not just a technical task.
It requires constant balancing between openness and responsibility, flexibility and clarity.
Some challenges we addressed during Phase I:
- Framing a complex, multi-level structure into a functional ecosystem
- Transitioning the platform from beta to a stable UNA v14 core
- Developing language modules and core translations for custom platform languages
- Avoiding feature-driven complexity
- Preventing information overload
- Keeping governance transparent without becoming bureaucratic
- Ensuring participation remains intentional, not extractive
Each challenge helped sharpen the platform’s direction and reinforced the importance of building with care rather than speed.
Where we are now
With Phase I nearing completion, circled.club now offers:
- A stable, public-ready foundation
- Clearer onboarding and participation paths
- Improved navigation and orientation
- Defined places for support, governance, and documentation
- A system ready to grow — deliberately, not by accident
What comes next
Phase II will focus on growth with care:
- Deeper onboarding experiences
- Local and thematic hubs
- Stronger community-led initiatives
- Refined collaboration and support models
